After the Obama administration voiced “dismay” earlier this month at the decision by the Jerusalem municipality to approve 900 new housing units in the Jewish neighborhood of Gilo, straddling the Green Line, former housing minister Meir Sheetrit quipped that the White House seems to think that Jerusalem has been the capital of Israel since Camp David, not King David.

Israeli ambulances need police escort in Jerusalem

Three local human rights groups were up in arms this week over a new directive preventing Israeli ambulances from entering Arab-dominated neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem without a police escort.

The three groups – Adalah, Physicians for Human Rights – Israel and the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights – sent a letter to Israel’s Health Ministry and the Jerusalem Police Department insisting that the directive is a violation of human rights. They also claimed that patient privacy was being violated by having police officers accompany medical crew.

Jerusalem is a ticking time bomb, whereby an attack by Jewish extremists on Muslim holy sites could erase any chances for peace with the Palestinians and undermine stability in the entire Muslim world, Jordan’s US ambassador, Zeid Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein, told the Washington Post in an interview published Thursday.

Heavy rains and winds lash Israel

Central Israel, from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, was hit by heavy rains and strong winds Thursday night and throughout the day Friday.

While the rain is desperately needed amidst a growing water crisis, it also wreaked havoc in lower-lying areas.

‘The PA is Taking Over Jerusalem’

The Palestinian Authority is taking control of eastern Jerusalem, warns Jerusalem city councilman Yakir Segev. In an interview with Arutz-7’s Hebrew news service, Segev said, “Today there is no real Israeli sovereignty in eastern Jerusalem.”
