A Georgia congressman says God’s lament in the Bible’s book of Hosea — “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” — applies to Americans today.
In a speech on the House floor, Republican Paul Broun urged Americans to read the Constitution and the Federalist Papers to see how far the nation has strayed from its founding principles. He noted that Psalm 11 asks, “If the foundations be destroyed, what are the righteous to do?”
Broun said he asks four questions before voting on any piece of legislation: Is it right or moral in the Judeo-Christian sense? Is it constitutional? Is it necessary? And is it affordable?
The Georgia congressman said he trembles at the warning in scripture: “Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”
