By Avi Lipkin/Victor Mordecai With President Obama’s recent appointment of Samantha Powers as his “War Crimes Czar,” one may ask the question: “How will this affect Israel?”
Indeed, in 2002, during the presidency of George W. Bush, Samantha Powers was asked what she thought the president of the US needed to do regarding the Middle East. She said that if she were appointed assistant/advisor to the president, she would recommend that US/NATO forces militarily intervene against Israel on behalf of the Palestinian cause and help to create a Palestinian State with these Western troops ensuring that Israel would be forced back to the borders of June 5th, 1967.
Well, now in the year 2012, we see that indeed, the US president has appointed Samantha Powers as his advisor. With the handing down by a Turkish court of indictments against ten senior IDF officers and Israeli officials for “war crimes” for their involvement in the thwarting of the Mavi Marmara flotilla to Gaza, we can begin to have a taste of what is in store for Israel in the not to distant future at the hands of President Obama’s “war crimes czar.”
In their incessant efforts at gaining international recognition, the Palestinians have been trying to bring about recognition by world political bodies including the UN for their “almost” state of Palestine. They tried at the Security Council of the UN. They are promising to bring this up again at the General Assembly. UNESCO, contrary to history and the truth, has recognized that various holy sites in Israel are not Jewish holy sites, like the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hevron, Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem and the Temple Mount site in Jerusalem, but Moslem holy sites.
This delegitimization of Israel is part of a plan to legitimize a Palestinian state which insists on the impossible borders of June 5, 1967 backed by US/NATO military force and intervention.
There has been much talk of the possibility of a third intifada. And, of course, the more violent the Palestinians are in their confrontation with Israel, the more Israel will have to use force to restore order. This restoration of order will be considered by the world as a “war crime” and a pretext for external military intervention.
I will not forget all of the reports about American administration officials including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Obama ignoring some of the terrible things happening in the Middle East and exclusively focusing on the “territories, settlements and holy places” under Israeli control.
Then in early 2011, a Tunisian fruit vendor was arresting for selling his produce “without a license”. When he refused to pay bribes, he had his produce confiscated and then was slapped in the face by a policewoman, the ultimate offense to a Moslem man. He then self-immolated thus committing suicide. With Facebook, Twitter, cell-phones and other forms of mass media, Tunisia went up in flames. This was the beginning of the “so-called” Arab Spring. The rest is history. God reshuffled the deck.
This Arab Spring then spread to Libya, Egypt, Yemen and Syria. The world’s focus was no longer on Israel, but on the atrocities committed by Arabs against fellow Arabs.
But Samantha Powers, “war-crimes czar” is still preoccupied with Israel. The precedent of the former Republic of Yugoslavia comes to mind. NATO forces led by the US killed thousands of Christians to defend the Moslems.
If and when, indeed, international intervention takes place in Syria and perhaps even in Iran, this will all set the stage for intervention in the Holy Land. Luckily for the Palestinians, there is too much going on now in the Middle East for the spotlights to focus on Israel.
It will be interesting to see how God reshuffles the deck at that time.
