Speaking as an expert and a former hospital administrator with a masters degree in Health Care Administration (from the leading university in the field) and years of experience, I can tell you that the outfall from a national health care, single payer or government-mandated system is crystal clear – and it's frightening.
If we get universal national health care coverage (Hillarycare) and everyone has access to more or less FREE medical care, the demand for care will skyrocket. The supply will not, cannot, keep up. It's simple Economics 101 (which, it appears, none of our legislators have studied). Demand will outstrip supply.
Then, to control skyrocketing costs from skyrocketing demand, the government must set maximum payment levels that, just like today, will not cover the cost of providing health care people demand, deserve or what is good medical care. So, like in all the countries with socialized medicine, everyone goes on a waiting list; everyone suffers.
Since the government won't pay doctors and other professionals what they want and deserve for their services, many talented, intelligent people will not go into medicine as a profession (no money in it) or will drop out, thus straining the supply side of the system to the limit. This means more waiting time and lower quality of care.
This will be a disaster. It is a truism that the government should support a vital, healthy population. We have a healthy medical system, the best in the world. It will become a total failure through single payer government medicine. It's simple economics that anyone can understand.
What we don't have is healthy food and enough exercise.
And consider this. With nationalized health care, the government will control ALL health care modalities, allopathic, chiropractic, osteopathic, naturopathic, homeopathic, acupuncture and all, I repeat, ALL alternative medicines and medical practices as well, from the cradle to the grave. More importantly, it will include basic medical research and aftercare with visiting nurses.
The government will decide what research is to be done, what medicines are to be supplied, what operations are to be performed, what aftercare is given, what hospital and doctor you may be permitted to see and in the end, even who disposes of your body, how, where and when.
"Don't worry. I'm from the government and I'm here to help you." Right.
All this will mean a thriving underground medical establishment and huge pressure for alternative medical care because you won't be able to get regular health care, which the government will eventually prohibit through Codex Alimentarius and other means to maintain its monopoly and control costs. Don't laugh. Once this law took effect in Germany, the cost of vitamin C shot up 800 percent because you now needed a doctor's prescription to buy it.
National health care means NO health care. For anyone.
All six leading causes of death in this country are directly related to the food we eat and the exercise we (don't) get. The two leading sources of pollution in this country come from farming and landscape fertilizers and pesticides. Next in line are industrial and transportation pollution sources. Let's clean up chemical farming and our own lawns first and see what happens – then maybe we can take a second look at our health care system.
