More Olmert-Fatah-Hamas collusion: Hamas has been given exclusive radio broadcast rights from the Temple Mount this week - while Jews mourning the First Temple siege are banned from the site.
This week is the Moslem holiday Ein ul-Adhaa, marking the Islamic equivalent of Akeidat Yitzchak (the binding of Isaac by Abraham); the Koran, written in the late 7th century C.E., substituted Ishmael for Isaac.
Yesterday, as well, was the Jewish fast day of Asarah B'Tevet, commemorating the beginning of the siege by Nebuchadnezzar on Jerusalem over 2,500 years ago that resulted in the destruction of the First Temple, untold thousands of deaths, and a 70-year-long Jewish exile from the Holy Land.
"The siege of Nebuchadnezzar is recurring again in our time," said Rabbi Chaim Richman of the Temple Institute, "this time through the Israeli government, which is banning Jews and Christians but is allowing Hamas, who will defile G-d in our holiest place. There is no greater demonstration of the total spiritual bankruptcy of the Israeli government."
He told Arutz-7 that if, alternatively, it is not the Israeli government that is responsible, "then who are we kidding when we say that Fatah will fight Hamas? We see clearly that they ... more »

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office issued a statement Thursday strongly denying a report that Olmert's residence was being outfitted with a bunker that can withstand a nuclear or chemical attack. The Prime Minister's residence in the heart of Rehavia. Photo: Ariel Jerozolimski The PMO called the Yediot Ahronot report "unfounded and misleading." The statement said workers were merely adding a "safe room," a room with thick concrete walls and metal-shuttered windows that is a feature of many Israeli buildings. Israeli construction codes require such rooms to protect residents in case of rocket attacks. "No atomic bunker is being constructed at the prime minister's official residence, or a bunker equipped with special filters or any special equipment," the statement said. Yediot Ahronot had claimed that workers at Olmert's official Jerusalem residence were thickening walls, digging, and installing air decontamination equipment capable of countering chemical agents. RELATED Ex-MI Chief: NIE will enable Iran to get nukes 'Bushehr plant won't be commissioned before late 2008' Yediot said that the work at Olmert's residence follows the renovation of a bunker underneath the building housing his office, where Cabinet ministers are supposed to convene in case of an attack on Israel's government ... more »

Israeli officials 'surprised' by American 'slap in face'
By Aaron Klein President Bush takes reporters' questions at White House news conference today JERUSALEM – Israeli officials said they were surprised when President Bush turned down a request to address Israel's Knesset during a visit here next month, his first trip to the Jewish state as U.S. president. Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik, a ranking member of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's Kadima party, put in a request to Bush's aides earlier this month for the president to address the Knesset, a longstanding tradition among visiting heads of state. Bush is due in Jerusalem as part of a follow-up to last month's U.S.-led Annapolis summit. But the White House turned down Itzik, explaining Bush might be seen as biased toward Israel, since he could not similarly address the Palestinian parliament due to the inclusion of the Hamas terror organization, reported Israel's Channel 10 Television. Political sources in Jerusalem, speaking to WND on condition of anonymity for fear of starting a diplomatic crisis, said Olmert's office was "surprised" by the decline. "It's a slap in the face," said an official. "Even (Egyptian President Anwar) Sadat, who once said he'd destroy Israel, addressed the Knesset ... more »

US president's visit to Israel one of the largest protection operations Shin Bet has ever known. Director of bodyguard operations who stood next to Rabin on the night of his murder will meet with American counterparts Thursday
Dani Adino Ababa One of bodyguards escorting Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on the night of his murder will be responsible for the security of US President George Bush when he visits Israel next month, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Thursday. The bodyguard, who has since been promoted, has spent the last month in a flurry of activity, scurrying between the offices of anyone connected to the president's visit. Bush is slated to arrive January 9th for his first official visit to Israel, which will last three days and constitute one of the most complicated bodyguard operations of the last decade. On Monday a meeting on the issue took place at the Prime Minister's Office with the participation of PMO Deputy Director General Amnon Ben-Ami, Rabin's bodyguard, officials responsible for the official ceremony, and representatives of the President's Residence, the IDF, the police, and the Jerusalem Municipality. In the meeting, the bodyguard spoke of the difficulties expected during the president's visit and of frantic preparations in ... more »

The Roman Catholic Church's top cleric in the Holy Land said Israel should not be designated a Jewish state.
Latin Patriarch Michel Sabbah came out this week against the Olmert government's demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state before peace talks can proceed. "God made this land for all three of us so a suitable state is one who can adapt itself to the vocation of this land," said Sabbah, an Arab who was born in the northern Israeli town of Nazareth and who regularly officiates at religious events in the Palestinian Authority town of Bethlehem. "If it's Jewish, it's not Muslim or Christian," he told reporters. Sabbah had no word on whether a future Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip should not be allowed to favor Muslims given those territories' sanctity to Jews and Christians. Israel guarantees freedom of worship to all faiths. Original Source more »

'One thing led to another and result was some decorations prohibited'
Less than one day after WND reported on the imposition of a ban on references to "Christmas" at a Midwest university, the school's president has taken steps to fix the problem. "I am very pleased by the prompt actions of President John Hays to resolve the Christmas controversy," said Mathew D. Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, an advocacy law firm that alleged illegal censorship at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Okla. "His leadership in resolving the controversy of Christmas and the general guidelines he has set forth regarding the appropriate way a state school and its employees may acknowledge and celebrate Christmas serves as an example for others to follow," Staver said. "Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, and it can and should be enjoyed by all." Hays insisted the university does not have a policy that bans the word 'Christmas' or Christmas decorations. "However," he wrote in a statemetn, "some supervisors or department leaders within the university who meant well may have suggested to employees that caution should be taken with respect to Christmas decorations. "One thing led to another," he continued, "and ... more »

Every town hall has been ordered to send out surveys demanding local residents' personal information and opinions. The forms will ask householders to give details of their children, mortgage, ethnic background, religion and sexual orientation. Civil rights campaigners yesterday called the survey 'intrusive and very sinister', pointing out that any information handed over will not be kept confidential. Town hall Big Brother wants to know all about you Ministers have even given instructions that local councils must try to disguise their involvement in the survey to avoid attracting criticism. And they have ruled that the questioning must be paid for out of council tax and carried out every two years. The New Place Survey - which is expected to be launched next autumn after trials in the spring - is likely to cost at least £15million by 2012. Communities Secretary Hazel Blears distributed the consultation paper on the 'intrusive' survey According to a consultation paper distributed by Communities Secretary Hazel Blears, the justification for the survey is that it will let the Government know if councils are hitting scores of new targets imposed on them in the last six months. But the questionnaire does not ask about ... more »

'International community should be concerned about increased persecution' in China
Dozens of Christians have been questioned, arrested, jailed or beaten in a series of attacks on house church Christmas programs as China tries to wipe out "subversive" or "reactionary" forces before the 2008 Olympics, according to China Aid Association. The organization has released a list of the most recent assaults on Christians, including the detention in Henan province of Pastor Liang Qi Zhen, vice president of the Chinese House Church Alliance. "After disbursing Liang's congregation, police officials took him by force and transported him to an undisclosed location where he was tortured for several hours. Liang's ears and right hand were injured during the lengthy assault," said the organization, which seeks to be a window into China so the world can "witness the oppression, imprisonment and torture of Christians…" The organization also said of the 270 protestant pastors arrested in Shandong province recently for participating in the Bible study, only 200 have been released and 70 remain in custody. In Jiangsu province, a house church was attacked by police officials during members' Christmas celebration, and four women were "detained," including one who was hospitalized, the group said. In Yunan province, ... more »

'These women and their husbands and their fathers must die'
Women wearing the traditional Islamic head covering An Islamic cleric who leads Friday prayers at a city in Iranian Azerbaijan has pronounced a death sentence for Iranian women who don't wear the traditional head covering, the hijab, as well as their husbands and fathers. "Women who do not respect the hijab and their husbands deserve to die," Hojatolislam Gholam Reza Hassani told the news service ADN Kronos International. Hassani works in the city of Urumieh, and is the representative of the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in eastern Azerbaijan, the report said. "I do not understand how these women who do not respect the hijab, 28 years after the birth of the Islamic Republic, are still alive," he said. "These women and their husbands and their fathers must die," he said. The news service reported the statements came after two Kurdish feminists in Iran were accused of membership in an armed rebel group and working on "subversive" actions that would threaten the security of the state. (Story continues below) In recent months thousands of Iranian women already have been warned about "un-Islamic dress" including tight, short coats and ... more » |
