WASHINGTON — Just days after a bitterly divided Senate committee voted
along party lines to approve her nomination as a federal appellate
court judge, California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown told
an audience Sunday that people of faith were embroiled in a "war"
against secular humanists who threatened to divorce America from its
religious roots, according to a newspaper account of the speech.

MOSCOW - On the eve of Russian President Vladimir Putin's trip to Israel, Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said Tuesday that Moscow would go ahead with its sale of Strelets missile systems to Syria. NEVE DEKALIM, Gaza Strip (AP) - Thousands of Israelis poured into the Gaza Strip's main Jewish settlement bloc Wednesday to protest this summer's planned withdrawal, show support for the settlers and bid farewell to the area Israel occupied for 38 years. Gaza settler leaders said they expect at least 100,000 people, which would make it one of the largest demonstrations since Prime Minister Ariel Sharon announced the pullout plan last year. Turnout was expected to be bolstered by warm weather and the Passover holiday, when schools are closed and many people are on vacation. Read More
