LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A legislator who filed a lawsuit against God has
gotten something he might not have expected: a response. One of two
court filings from "God" came Wednesday under otherworldly
circumstances, according to John Friend, clerk of the Douglas County
District Court in Omaha.
"This one miraculously appeared on the counter. It just all of a sudden
was here - poof!" Friend said.
State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha sued God last week, seeking a
permanent injunction against the Almighty for making terroristic
threats, inspiring fear and causing "widespread death, destruction and
terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."
Chambers, a self-proclaimed agnostic who often criticizes Christians,
said his filing was triggered by a federal lawsuit he considers
frivolous. He said he's trying to makes the point that anybody can sue
anybody.
Not so, says "God." His response argues that the defendant is immune
from some earthly laws and the court lacks jurisdiction.
It adds that blaming God for human oppression and suffering misses an
important point.
"I created man and woman with free will and next to the promise of
immortal life, free will is my greatest gift to you," according ... more »

Petition set up to seek respect for Jesus' name
Kathy Griffin Actress Kathy Griffin's rant at the Emmy awards in which she told Jesus to "suck it" has triggered a petition campaign intended to tell Hollywood "Enough is Enough!" Griffin, the star of the Bravo show "My Life on the D-List," was being honored for the Outstanding Reality Program, overtaking ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" after multiple attempts, when she launched into the tirade. But cast members at the Miracle Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., say they have had all they can stand. "We, as Christian entertainers, do not take it lightly that the name of our Lord and Savior has been mocked, and in response, we took out an ad in USA Today to stand up for Him," the group said. The group purchased a USA Today ad, for almost $100,000, on Sept. 17 to say, "'Enough is Enough!' The name of Jesus Christ should not be mocked, nor should those who love Him be slandered for their beliefs. It is time for people of faith around the country to stand firm against religious slander, bias, and bigotry of all types including Christianity!" "We are the actors, singers, ... more »

DMV 'does not believe it's in the business checking a person's legal
status'
New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer is preparing to announce a new policy that will enable illegal aliens to obtain a driver's license. The state's Department of Motor Vehicles no longer will require applicants to provide Social Security numbers or proof they're eligible for Social Security cards, the New York Post and New York Sun reported. Under the new rules, valid foreign passports, previous state driver's licenses and other verifiable proofs of ID will be considered on a point-based system, according to a source who spoke to the Post. "The DMV does not believe it's in the business checking a person's legal status; it's not the INS," the source said. The Sun said county clerks around the state came to Albany yesterday to discuss the new policy with DMV officials, according to a source. Spitzer said last year during the gubernatorial campaign he would allow illegal aliens to obtain driver's licenses, because banning them would make life worse for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers without adding to security. Restricting access to licenses drives illegals "into the shadows, creating a class of people with no public records," said ... more »

Former New York City Mayor and Republican Presidential contender Rudy Giuliani said this week that he was "liberals' worst nightmare." However, the truth is, Rudy Giuliani is everyone's worst nightmare. That Rudy Giuliani is currently trying to cast himself as a conservative is beyond laughable — it is hilarious. This is a man who is unabashedly pro-abortion. He has been seen walking down Fifth Avenue with thousands of homosexuals demanding "gay rights." He himself is a cross-dresser. He has had numerous marriages and only God knows how many sexual affairs. He has been one of the country's most radical proponents of gun control. He made New York a sanctuary city for illegal aliens and is a strong proponent of amnesty for illegal aliens. As a prosecutor, his abuse of power and disregard for law are legendary. (See http://www.lewrockwell.com/roberts/roberts208.html ) In addition, Rudy Giuliani is a senior partner in the law firm that "represents CITGO, the oil company controlled by Venezuela's anti-American and terrorist-supporting ruler Hugo Chavez." Giuliani's law firm also acts "as the exclusive legal counsel for Cintra, the Spanish firm that has been granted the right to operate a toll road in the Trans-Texas Corridor ... more »

Despite the claims of socialists, Democrats and many others, there is
no "right" to adequate health care. Rights are endowed by the Creator
and are limited to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All
other so-called rights are manufactured by governments. Governments are
not empowered to grant rights; governments can only limit or extinguish
rights. Governments can, however, bestow gifts upon its citizens. But
to do so, governments must first take resources from those who have
earned them and redistribute those resources to others.
HillaryCare, ObamaCare, EdwardsCare and every other form of socialized medicine is inherently fraught with fraud, abuse and corruption. What's more, these systems are necessarily designed to reduce the level of service while driving up the costs. Medicare should be a sufficient example to send all voters running away from any suggestion of getting the federal government any deeper into the health care business. Economists and politicians alike predict the collapse of the current government-run health care program. It makes no sense at all even to think about expanding government's roll in the medical business. There is simply no way government can run a health care program that will not end in disaster. Why? Consider ... more »

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Nearly 10,000 people from countries designated as sponsors of terrorism have entered the United States under an immigration diversity program with relatively few restrictions, a report released on Friday said. The report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office said the State Department's inspector general warned in 2003 that the Diversity Visa Program posed a significant risk to national security and recommended it be closed to people from countries on the U.S. list of state terrorism sponsors. Tells Denver trade conference EU is 'model we need to follow quickly'
By Michael Howe Mayor Evaristo Lenin Perez of Ciudad Acuna, Mexico At a Denver conference on intercontinental trade corridors, a Mexican mayor called for a swift move toward a European Union-style merger of the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Referring to Europe, Evaristo Lenin Perez of Ciudad Acuna – a sister city of Del Rio, Texas – told the Great Plains International Conference, "It's a model we need to follow quickly." Perez later told WND, "If only people know the benefits of opening the borders and working together, improving the quality of life for all, then no one would be opposed to the idea of a North American Union." A spokesman for organizers of the conference – which began Wednesday and concludes today – rejected the Mexican mayor's view. "This is not what the conference is about, it is not about a North American Union," said Joe Kiely, vice president of the Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor Coalition. "It is about developing infrastructure and economic opportunities in the Great Plains. I am equally surprised the other items were brought up here." Ports-to-Plains describes itself as "a planned, multimodal transportation corridor including ... more »

Relations between Russia and the United States will be put to the
severe test in the coming weeks as there are growing signs that the US
has decided, or has almost decided, to launch a military strike against
Iran. Russian observers do not rule out that the administration of US
President George W. Bush is yet to think through its policy on Iran,
and the spate of media "leaks" keeps Tehran and the world community
guessing. They analyze that a US military intervention would become
inevitable unless Iran relented in its regional policy in Iraq. It is
inconceivable for the US to leave its Arab allies in the region to face
Iran single-handed. But then, Russian experts do not visualize that the
US has reached anywhere near the point where it can claim the security
situation has been stabilized and political reconciliation achieved,
which would allow a complete withdrawal of troops. On the contrary,
they see the situation in Iraq continuing to deteriorate. Moscow would
weigh that the real US agenda is aimed at "regime change" in Iran.
Washington has more or less ensured that all military equipment (three
aircraft-carrier battle groups) necessary for an air and sea strike

MOSCOW, September 20 (RIA Novosti) - Two Russian strategic Tu-95MS
Bear-H bombers carried out a flight along the coasts of Alaska and
Canada during recent command and post exercises, the Russian Air Force
announced Thursday.
"Each Tu-95 plane took about 30 tons of fuel on board, for the first time since the Soviet era. Their average flight duration was about 17 hours, during which the planes covered a distance of over 13,000 km [8,000 miles]," said Alexander Drobyshevsky, an aide to the Air Force commander. According to the Air Force, the bombers were refueled in the air by Il-78 Midas tankers. Drobyshevsky also said another pair of Tu-95MS flew around Greenland into the eastern Atlantic, a flight that took about 12 hours. President Vladimir Putin announced the resumption of strategic patrol flights on August 17, saying that although the country halted long-distance strategic flights to remote regions in 1992, other nations had continued the practice, compromising Russian national security. The latest flights were in line with an air patrolling plan, and the planes were accompanied by NATO fighters. According to various sources, the Russian Air Force currently deploys 141 Tu-22M3 bombers, 40 Tu-95MS bombers, and 14 Tu-160 planes. Original Source... more »

Chilling Soviet plans to launch massive nuclear strikes in Europe followed by a ground offensive in Germany and southern France have been unearthed by a Nato historian. Soviet troops were to storm across Europe According to scenarios drafted in 1964, Warsaw Pact forces planned to use 131 tactical nuclear missiles and bombs to sideline NATO armaments and destroy Western Europe’s political and communications centres, in the event of an “imperialist” strike. In an alarming insight into the “Doctor Strangelove” mindset of Soviet strategists, the Czechoslovak People’s Army, CSLA, was then expected to immediately march over deadly radioactive landscape and invade Nuremburg, Stuttgart and Munich, then bastions of West Germany. On the ninth day the troops would take Lyon, south eastern France. Soviet reinforcements would then continue the offensive towards the Pyrenees in the west. Historian Petr Lunak from NATO’s information office in Brussels, found the 17-page Warsaw Pact plan while sifting through declassified communist-era documents in Prague’s military archives. “Russians outlined the general (war) plan, while the (leaders of) individual Warsaw Pact armies prepared precise military blueprints, with details on front lines, deployment of troops and arms,” said Mr Lunak. The text, written ... more » |
