View Article  Spain and six EU countries to share criminal databases
Spain and six other members of the European Union will sign an agreement next Friday in Prüm, Germany, that will enable criminal records to be exchanged as part of the fight against terrorism and illegal immigration.
The pact, known as Schengen III, involves Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, France and Spain. The 12-measure agreement will allow the seven countries to automatically access their respective DNA and fingerprint databases, in addition to vehicle registrations. Another part of the accord will enable counter-terrorist police officers to fly on a random selection of airline flights.

Jordan's King Abdullah II urged Mideast leaders gathered Friday at an economic summit at the earth's lowest point (at the Dead Sea) to "seize the moment" to introduce reforms, a demand pushed by the United States.
"Never has there been greater opportunity for progress. Never has there been a greater sense of agreement that the future is in our hands. Today, positive change is in the air across the region," Abdullah told some 1,300 international business and political leaders attending an international conference here to seek solutions to Mideast intricacies.
