Israel must take moral stand against China’s immoral organ trade
Elyakim Haetzni
In the first years after Israel’s establishment we ignored the
suffering of others because of our own endless wars, the economic
situation, and mostly because we had to absorb numerous refugees. Yet
things have changed. Today, our tycoons build malls in Eastern Europe
and casinos in Las Vegas, while thousands go on vacation in Turkey.
Today, our international ranking is among the highest and most
successful.
Yet there is one place where we are not present: Among the world’s
moral guardians. Our voice was not heard when genocide disasters were
taking place in Cambodia, Rwanda, and Darfur. The bleeding hearts
amongst us create artificial compassion for “Palestinian suffering,”
which in the Third World would be considered a paradise.
A nation that aspires to be a light unto the nations, and itself was
subject to a mass extermination campaign, can be asked to show greater
moral standing than what is being displayed by the Jewish State.

Israeli windsurfer Shahar Tzubari secured Israel's only medal of the
2008 Beijing Olympic Games and Israel's seventh Olympic medal ever on
Wednesday.
Tzubari started the final race of the windsurfing competition in fourth place, but surged ahead of everyone except his competitor from Hong Kong to take second place in the race and secure third place overall. Israeli television commentators exploded with excitement as Tzubari crossed the finish line, bringing a moment of national pride during an otherwise disappointing Israeli showing at the Olympic Games. Israeli medal favorites in several other events failed to place in the top three. Original Source more »

For the last three weeks the German government has been inundated with criticism for doing business with the world champion of anti-Semitism, approving as "no cause for concern" the delivery to Iran of three gas liquefaction units manufactured by Steiner-Prematechnik- Gastec (SPG), based in Siegen. Hartmut Schauerte, a member of Chancellor Angela Merkel's government and MP for her Christian Democratic Union, played a vital role in pushing through the 100 million euro deal, for which he never heard a word of criticism from her. What cannot be overlooked, however, is this blatant contradiction of Merkel's deeming Israel part of Germany's national security interests during her Knesset speech last March. Although Merkel stated then that Israel's security is "non-negotiable," her government is facilitating a deal that strengthens Israel's number one enemy. Iran, on its way to becoming a nuclear power, continually threatens the Jewish state with annihilation, while supporting anti-Semitic terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hizbullah - not to mention brutal disregarding basic freedoms and rights for its own people. The deal with SPG has made it clear that commitment and a sense of responsibility are lacking in regards to Germany's declared national objective of preserving the ... more »

The US turned down a request by Defense Minister Ehud Barak to purchase the Boeing 767 aircraft, which can be used for mid-air refueling, amid fears that the sale would appear to support an Israeli strike on Iran, Channel 10 news reported on Thursday. Some 1,000 kilometers separate Israel from Iran, a distance that would play a key role in any attack on Iranian nuclear sites. The IAF already has mid-air refueling capabilities and possesses seven F-16I fighter jets with an estimated 2,100 kilometer range, which would enable them to strike targets deep within Iranian territory without the need to refuel. Israel also possesses dozens of F-15I long-range fighter jets, which are also capable of flying for thousands of kilometers without refueling. A Barak aide told The Jerusalem Post that he was unfamiliar with the content of the Channel 10 report. Original Source more »

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is calling Israel a "germ of corruption" that will be "removed soon." The comments were posted Wednesday on his presidential Web site. They appear to be part of an effort to defuse criticism by hard-liners over recent remarks made by a high-level official. Last week, Iranian media quoted Vice President Esfandiar Rahim Mashai as saying Iranians were "friends of all people in the world - even Israelis." Original Source more » |
