Panel had asked state board to teach ideas as fact
A decision by the Florida Board of Education to qualify evolution as a
"theory" when the concept is taught in public schools has triggered a
gusher of outrage from those faithful to Darwinian philosophy.
"Creationism is NOT science and is for fools who believe in fairy
tales," wrote boston85 on a Tampa Bay Online forum after the state
board simply voted to describe evolution as a "theory." It wasn't even
considering allowing teaching alternative beliefs about the origins of
the universe, such as creationism or intelligent design.
Added Brian06, "What is the problem? Darwin's theory of evolution by
means of natural selection has stood the test of SCIENTIFIC studies and
investigations. Why are the people against the writings in Darwin's
book and have yet NEVER read it and yet they 'claim' to live their live
(sic) by bible (sic) which they have also NEVER read!"
And lornoborno wrote: "You religious fanatics make us look like
backwards fools to the rest of the world. Asia will overtake us in
science and technology – you are hurting the USA worse than any
terrorist or communist regime. Your stupid medieval myths do not ... more »

Westerners opposed to the application of the Islamic law (the Shari‘a) watch with dismay as it goes from strength to strength in their countries – harems increasingly accepted, a church leader endorsing Islamic law, a judge referring to the Koran, clandestine Muslim courts meting out justice. What can be done to stop the progress of this medieval legal system so deeply at odds with modern life, one that oppresses women and turns non-Muslims into second-class citizens? A first step is for Westerners to mount a united front against the Shari‘a. Facing near-unanimous hostility, Islamists back down. For one example, note the retreat last week by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in a dispute concerning guide dogs used by the blind. Muslims traditionally consider dogs impure animals to be avoided, creating an aversion that becomes problematic when Muslim store-owners or taxi drivers deny service to blind Westerners relying on service dogs. I have collected fifteen such cases on my weblog, at "Muslim Taxi Drivers vs. Seeing-Eye Dogs": five from the United States (New Orleans, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Brooksville, Fl.; Everett, Wash.); four from Canada (Vancouver, twice in Edmonton, Fort McMurray, Alberta); three from the United Kingdom (Cambridge, twice ... more »

(author of DAY OF ISLAM) America’s war on terror has come full circle. By pledging his support of Kosovo’s declaration of independence from Serbia, President George W. Bush has sanctioned the genocide of thousands of Serbian Christians in the Balkans and the creation, thanks to al Qaeda, of a radical Muslim state at the doorway to Europe. After announcing their independence from Serbia on February 16, thousands of ethnic Albanians (Muslims) took to the streets waving American flags and singing patriotic songs. While the national press provided glowing coverage of these demonstrations as proof that the “Kosovars” were adamantly pro-America, few media outlets took notice that the demonstrations were preceded by the sacking of Christian churches and the burning of thousands of Serbian books. But book-burning is the least of the sins of our new friend and ally. The Kosovars have also sacked churches, raped nuns, and mass-murdered approximately 4,000 Christian Serbs in and around the town of Srebrenica and its adjoining towns and villages (Bratunac, Skelani, Milici, et al) as well as the town of Gorazde. In a letter to Fatmir Sejdui, the president of the new “republic,” Bush wrote: “On behalf of the ... more »

By Andrea Billups - Today is Presidents Day, so it's an appropriate
time to see who has a good handle on national history or government. If
you think, however, the nation's college students have the most
knowledge on the subjects, think again.
College freshmen earned an average grade of F, or just 53.7 percent, when asked a series of questions about U.S. presidents and key historical events from their times in office. After four years of college, their knowledge didn't improve much. College seniors got just 55.4 percent on the 60-question quiz given to 14,000 students at 50 colleges and universities across the country as part of a study designed to test their knowledge of America's history, government, international relations and market economy. "In this election, we are focusing on the youth vote, and it's great that more kids are coming out to vote. But we worry that it's become a kind of cult of personality," says Richard Brake, director of the Lehrman American Studies Center at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute in Wilmington, Del., which commissioned the civic learning study, conducted by researchers at the University of Connecticut's Department of Public Policy. "If these kids don't know what has happened ... more »

18 February 2008: A massive explosion rocked the ALON oil refinery in
Big Spring, Texas shortly after 8:00 a.m. local time today, blowing out
windows and shaking houses and businesses up to 25 miles away. Despite
the magnitude of the explosion and fire, officials are reporting that
eleven people were injured from the blast at the refinery, one
critically, a toll likely minimized by the President’s Day holiday.
ALON employs about 170 people and produces about 70,000 barrels a day. A Dallas based company, ALON is a majority owned company by ALON Israel Oil Co. Ltd. Although no cause for the explosion has been determined, this refinery has reportedly been the target of surveillance within the last 18 months, by at least two men of Middle Eastern appearance. Given the recent threats by Islamic terrorists to U.S. and Israeli assets in the U.S. and abroad in retaliation for the death of top Islamic terrorist Imad Fayez Mughniyeh, the Northeast Intelligence Network will continue to monitor events pertaining to this explosion. Ex-KGB agent in hiding fears his own elimination
LONDON – Britain's domestic intelligence service has been warned by Oleg Gordievsky, the former KGB agent who spied for Britain during the Cold War, that Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a death squad to assassinate wealthy Russian billionaire exiles and their associates now living in the United Kingdom. Alexander Litvinenko From their heavily guarded mansions, the oligarchs have mounted a relentless campaign to undermine Putin's power and disrupt the Russian elections next month. Now Gordievsky, the London chief of the KGB which Putin once headed, is raising the stakes. The squat, bespectacled Gordievsky provided his controller, John Scarlett, the chief of MI6, with many of the KGB's top secrets – including the former Soviet Union's plans to launch a nuclear war. Scarlett arranged for Gordievsky to be smuggled out of Moscow on the eve of his arrest in a James Bond-style operation which involved picking up travel documents from a dead letter box in a Moscow street and jumping on board the night train to Leningrad, now St Petersburg. From there he was smuggled across the border into Finland in the trunk of the car of the British ambassador. Since his ... more » |
