WASHINGTON- A new poll suggests that 55 percent of white evangelical
Republicans would consider voting for a conservative third-party
candidate if the 2008 presidential race pits Hillary
Clinton against Rudy Giuliani.
The Pew Research Center says the margin of error was plus or minus 2.5
percentage points.
Giuliani is the leading GOP contender in most national polls, but his
views on abortion, gays and guns are considered too liberal by many
Christian conservatives.
Christian conservative leaders have discussed launching a third-party
bid if the former New York mayor is nominated, although some argue that
doing so would guarantee a Democratic victory.
